Devil Dog Squadron - Engine Mounting at Oshkosh
Mounting the new engine.
Devil Dog Engine Overhaul from Jim Connors on Vimeo.
The Devil Dog Squadron recently sent several Devil Dogs to Oshkosh, WI to begin installing a new left engine on the plane.
The engine is a Wright R-2600, Twin Cyclone 14-cylinder radial engine. Weighing in at just over 2,000 pounds and displacing 2,600 ci (47.2l), it produces 1,700 horsepower and burns 75 gallons of fuel per hour.
A second team traveled to Oshkosh the week of Feb 1st and with the help of the Minnesota Wing, completed the installation and flew the plane back home to Georgetown, TX.
A big thanks to all who have donated to make this moment possible - and to keep this rare piece of history flying!
